The Tools and Techniques of Improved Medication Use

The studies were chosen for inclusion following a systematic review of several hundred studies. Fewer than 50 studies were chosen as meeting rigorous study design criteria.

The systematic review was published in a recent article released in the November issue of the American Journal of Managed Care. To view the entire article entitled Changing Medication Use in Managed Care: A Critical Review of the Available Evidence, please click here (PDF).

The study authors were contacted to ask if they would be willing to share resource materials with an audience of administrators, clinicians, researchers, and others interested in seeing what has been done to improve medication use in health plans. Not all interventions used strategies readily adaptable to a web-based format, but the study authors generously provided what they could, in some cases inviting linkage to their own web sites.
